Pastor’s Keyboard: Love died, and now Love Has Risen! Love is not a feeling but has a face, and He has done everything for us. This is a mystery that must be pondered, studied, and embraced for the rest of our lives. I think this is the reason the church has both liturgical Octaves and Seasons. The mystery of Christmas and Easter are of such importance and so deep that the church gives us (who go to daily mass or who read daily mass readings) a week of readings to meditate on these mystery’s in a very intense way. Along with this, we chant the Gloria at every mass that week.
The Season of Lent last 40 days and the Season of Easter last 50 days! I love the fact that God the Father had Jesus rise in the Spring time, when all that was seemly dead springs back to life. Nature itself seems to speak to us the gospel message of the Resurrection as the birds and crickets sing to us His praises. This Lent was awesome for so many of us, even as we struggled and sometimes failed to keep our Lenten penances and devotions. This Easter, Christ wants us to rejoice and to, again, rise with Him out of the tomb of sadness and despair. To recognize He who is life, love, and mercy, has come for us. All we need to do is open the doors of our hearts and minds to let Him do great work in our hearts. To help us rise each morning, and to prepare us for that final judgement day.
